Some 2m CW DX for this weak signal newbie

Tonight I completed a sked with Mike, N5SJ on 2m CW. 144.2 MHz. I didn't expect to it be successful, but I was very pleased it worked out. He first tried calling me on SSB and I didn't hear a thing. But CW did the trick. I don't remember how many elements Mike has on his 2m yagi, but he told me it was up a ways on his tower and his tower was on top of a hill on his property. He said he was running 40 or 50W. I was running my Yaesu FT-817 to a new RM Italy 80W all mode amp to an "old design" Hy-Gain 14 element "FM" yagi. I recently mounted it on a newly installed short roof tower on my carport. I guess with the carport, 4 1/2 ft. tower and short mast it is in the vicinity of 18 ft. high. Mike gave me a 559 with some intermittent QRN, I gave him a 339. Although QRZ.com tells me it is just 154 miles, IT WAS FUN! New grid too, though they are all new grids to this newbie!
