Chat section.

Postby N5JEH » Fri Jan 01, 2016 10:32 am

Would it be possible to have a chat section? Nice to have a place for us to gather and just chat.

Looks good so far.

Also a place for VHF links like this one : http://aprs.mountainlake.k12.mn.us/

Ed,

We'll have room for that link (and others) in the reference or tech section. Obviously that's still under construction. Thanks for the comment.

It was quite a struggle, but I finally managed to get a chat page up and running. This is not a link to an external service...it is resident on our local server. I make no guarantees it will be bug-free! Let me know if you encounter any problems.

The chat page will automatically log you on as a guest. To change this, simply type

/nick CALLSIGN

replacing CALLSIGN with your actual call, which is not case sensitive.

I changed the chat page slightly. When it opens, instead of assigning you a random guest number it will ask for your desired user name. Using your callsign would be a good choice. You should stay logged in indefinitely provided you don't close the browser window. I'll be trying it out this weekend during the ARRL VHF contest.

it uses cookies. If you type /nick USERNAME it will remember it as long as you're using the same browser on the same computer, and haven't cleared your cookies,

I guess I am missing something. Where is the link to the chat test page?
